Sunflower Secret
The “disc flowers” at the center of a sunflower, that look dark brown to the naked eye, are pink under the scope! I used a nearly 200-year-old technique called darkfield microscopy, which improves the contrast of an image by only allowing light to reach the eyepiece if it has been scattered by the sample. It's ideal for revealing small and transparent objects like the pollen grains surrounding the flower.
